Four Mie teenagers cut off girl's fingertip, put it in curry

MATSUSAKA — Police on Monday arrested four boys and girls, aged 15 to 18, for assaulting a 18-year-old girl and chopping off the tip of her right little finger. The four assailants are suspected of calling the unemployed 18-year-old girl to an apartment in Matsusaka, where they beat her with an iron bar, cut her hair and chopped the tip of her little finger off with a knife, police said. "We put the fingertip into a pot of curry," the assailants were quoted as saying, police said.

The two girls arrested were acquainted with the victim and said they wanted revenge on the girl because she spread rumors they were pregnant. The victim got away from her assailants by jumping into a canal as they were taking her to another place. The assault took place last Friday night.

Voici la deuxieme manchette aujourd'hui:

Trio get 7-9 years for burying college student alive in dispute over woman

OSAKA — The Osaka District Court on Thursday sentenced two 22-year-old men to nine years in prison and another 22-year-old man to seven years for murdering a college student by burying him alive after assaulting him and another man in Okayama Prefecture last year. Yuki Sato, a former student at Higashiosaka College in Osaka Prefecture, and Yuta Tokumitsu, unemployed, were given nine years, while Hiroshi Sayama, also unemployed, was sentenced to seven years.

According to the ruling, the three defendants, in collusion with Sato's friend Ryuji Kobayashi, 22, and others, unleashed a gang beating on Shoji Fujimoto and Tetsuya Iwagami in June 2006 after luring them out to Okayama Prefecture in a dispute over a woman. They then killed Fujimoto, who was a 21-year-old student at Higashiosaka College, by burying him alive at a waste disposable site in the city of Okayama. Kobayashi as the key offender in the crime has already been sentenced to death. A total of eight people have been indicted over the incident, including a 17-year-old boy who was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Troisieme manchette:

Teen who beheaded mother to be detained for 2 months for psychiatric tests

FUKUSHIMA — Prosecutors said Thursday they will detain a 17-year-old senior high school boy for two months through Aug 30 for psychiatric checkups after he sent shock waves through Japanese society earlier this month after allegedly killing his mother and severing her head and right arm in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture.

The Aizuwakamatsu Summary Court issued a warrant of detention for psychiatric tests on the boy, a third-year student at a senior high school run by the Fukushima prefectural government. Police said the boy was diagnosed earlier this month as being mentally unstable. On May 15, the boy was arrested on suspicion of murder after showing up at the Aizuwakamatsu Police Station with his mother's head wrapped in a bag.
